2015 NY2LA SPORTS SUMMER JAM DAY 2 RECAP - PART 3
Trevor Andershock — Contributing Editor - NY2LASPORTS.COM

The second day of the 2015 NY2LA Sports Summer Jam featured many explosive performances like Marcus Carr of the Northern Kings going for 36 points or the New York Dragons guard Gavin Thompson scoring 25 points. Thursday was a day of big individual performances. Here is a look at the day's standouts.
Top Performers

Gavin Thompson - 5-7 - G - New York Dragons - 2019
The pint-sized guard was playing up a grade level but it did not stop him from scoring 25 points including six 3-pointers against the Grand Rapids Storm. He had no fear on the offensive end. He was willing to hunt for his shot at any time and they were going in on Thursday. Although undersized right now, Thompson has quickness off the dribble and fantastic consistency with his shot.  2019 guard Gavin Thompson of the New York Dragons received an offer from New Mexico after his 25 point performance Thursday.

Marcus Carr – 6-1 – G – Northern Kings – 2017
Carr put on a show in the two games that he played on Thursday. He started it off by scoring 25 points against a good Pocket City team then he followed it up with 36 points against the Wisconsin Playmakers. Carr is great off the dribble. He was able to get to the lane anytime that he wanted to on Thursday. Once he reached the lane, he converted his efforts into points at a fantastic rate. His “float game” inside 12 feet was fantastic. His passing ability was also highlighted. Carr displayed tremendous vision and understanding of where the ball needed to be.
Tai Bibbs - 6-0 - PG - Mercury Elite - 2017
Bibbs is a rising prospect for Mercury Elite. He tallied 21 points in a 57-54 loss to DTA. He has good length and size as a lead guard. He is quick off the dribble and a good outside shooter. Bibbs has a solid overall game. His performance on Thursday turned some heads of college coaches.

Delonte Brown - 6-6 - F - All-Ohio Red - 2017
Brown had 18 points in a win over Iowa Barnstormers. He is a long, athletic forward that showcased his potential at times in the game against the Barnstormers. Brown led the break one time where he handled the ball well then finished over a defender at the basket. He has the skills to play inside or outside. Brown's game has the tools to continue to grow for many years to come. He is a player to watch in 2017.

Jack Nunge - 6-8 - PF - Pocket City - 2017
Nunge had one of his best games of the travel season against Grand Rapids Storm. The rising junior had 25 points in a comeback win Thursday night. He was especially big in the second half where he knocked down key 3-pointers and scored at the rim after getting great position. Nunge showed that he could attack the paint off the dribble as well against the Grand Rapids Storm. It was a tremendous showing by Nunge.

Daniel Soetan - 6-4 - G - Full Package – 2016
Soetan is prepping next season at Quakerdale Prep in Iowa. He has excellent size and athleticism with the ability to play the lead guard position. He attacked the basket well off the dribble and shined in transition for Full Package. He is a high potential guard that college programs should track throughout the next year.

Justin Boyd - 6-1 - G - Meanstreets – 2018
Boyd has good size at 6-foot-1. He used his size and length to get to the basket and score over the top of opponents on Thursday. He also displayed a smooth outside shot against the Louisville Magic as his Meanstreets team came out on top. The upside is certainly there for Boyd.

Khaleem Bennett - 6-2 - SG - UPLAY – 2018
Bennett is an athletic wing that is not afraid to challenge defenders going to the rim. He had a couple  dunks in traffic on Thursday morning. His size and length plus athleticism gives Bennett the physical base to build from in the years to come. The Canadian guard is a player to watch in 2018.

Dante Smalls - 6-3 - SG - Louisville Magic – 2018
Smalls did a little bit of everything for the Louisville Magic on Thursday. He has a burst off the dribble with his first step which allows him to get to the basket at a high rate. He displayed a solid understanding of the game and vision which led to some great touch passes. His overall skill set is solid.  The future of Smalls is bright.
Chris Lester - 6-5 - F - Full Package - 2015
A high academic prospect, Lester is still looking for a Division I opportunity for next year. If he does not get a D1 spot, he will prep for a season. Lester has excellent length on top of his 6-foot-5 frame. He was great in the lane using his body and finishing with touch. He is slightly undersized but he has the offensive skills to play on the perimeter as well as inside.
Recruiting Notes
Northern Kings 2017 guard Marcus Carr will attend Montverde Academy next year. He currently has offers from Virginia Tech and Houston. He will be sure to see his recruitment explode soon.

2019 guard Gavin Thompson of the New York Dragons received an offer from New Mexico after his 25 point performance Thursday.

Mercury Elite guard Justin Pierce received an offer from IUPUI on Thursday.
Wisconsin Playmakers point guard Trevor Anderson was offered by Lafayette College.
